Helping Communities
Environmentally destructive projects and practices violate the human rights of local communities. Indigenous peoples are especially at risk. Community members’ rights to life, health, property, and culture are threatened by harm to the lands that they have traditionally occupied and on which they depend for their survival.
Law firms enlisted by EDLC advocate and negotiate on behalf of communities for redress of environmental human rights violations; pursue indigenous land claims; and assist local lawyers by presenting arguments based on international human rights law and the law of other nations.
