Helping Communities

Environmentally destructive projects and practices violate the human rights of local communities. Indigenous peoples are especially at risk. Community members’ rights to life, health, property, and culture are threatened by harm to the lands that they have traditionally occupied and on which they depend for their survival.

Law firms enlisted by EDLC advocate, negotiate, and litigate on behalf of communities for redress of environmental human rights violations. EDLC assists local lawyers by presenting legal briefs based on international human rights law; providing advice and resources on a host of issues; and by funding litigation costs.
